Any ideas for Homemade Bird Toys ?
Recently my lovebirds have been chewing anything in their cage – edge of their bath etc..
I was wondering if their was anything i could use from home – ie the inside of a toilet roll ? That is safe for them and something to chew on ?
There are many safe and cheap things you can use for bird toys that they can chew on. You may have some of these items around your house. Craft stores are good places to look as well.
Wiffle ball (you can put treats inside the holes, shredded paper, etc.)
Strings/strands of leather (make sure it is vegetable-tanned leather!)
A phone book can be put on the top or side of the cage with the pages sticking through the bars and they will shred it to pieces!
Cotton rope (they sell these as dog chew toys sometimes, buy a plain one rather than one with dyes)
Unscented toliet paper
Cardboard (you can also cut shapes out and string them together with the strands of leather or rope)
Popsicle sticks are great! You can buy a box of them at the store for pretty cheap and my birds loves to tear them apart. They come in two different sizes!
Wooden and plastic beads (just make sure they are not too small!!)
Put treats in a crunched up ball of paper
Wooden clothespins
Old white (clean) socks
Unsalted plain rice cakes
Grape vine wreaths (available in most craft stores)
Plastic toy keys for babies
Squares of untreated wood
Untreated wicker baskets or balls
Plain uncolored paper bag filled with shreddable paper and treats
You can combine some of these items to build toys or use them separately! Feel free to get creative with it!
